Creative Curriculum
The Loop Learning Center uses the Creative Curriculum with all students. The Creative Curriculum is a research based, comprehensive, nurturing, predictable, consistent, flexible and developmentally appropriate curriculum that includes objectives for development and learning in all domains.
The Creative Curriculum framework consists of 5 components:
- how children develop and learn
- the learning environment
- what children learn
- caring and teaching
- partnering with families
The Creative Curriculum contains 36 goals and objectives in the following domains: Social-Emotional, Physical, Cognitive, Language, Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies and The Arts. There are 2 additional objectives that cover English Language Acquisition for English Language Learners. The goals and objectives consist of progressions which address children from infancy through Kindergarten.
This curriculum offers choices and flexibility. It allows the teachers to be intentional about the experiences that are offered to the children while considering the interest and abilities of the children being served.
Teaching Strategies
Teaching Strategies Gold is the online component of the Creative Curriculum. This is the system used by teachers to input data and assess the children to ensure that developmental milestones are being met. The system is also used by teachers for planning activities to be implemented with the students.
The features of Teaching Strategies Gold also allows the teacher to plan for and assess children on an individual basis. This means that our teachers are capable of understanding where each child is developmentally. They are then able to meet the child where they are and work intentionally to help the child make progress.
Additionally, Teaching Strategies Gold has features that allow the parent to have access to their child’s learning and progress. Parents are able to use the site to view lesson plans, observations of their child and assessments. The parent is also allowed to enter their own observations and assessments of their child. The system allows parents to access activities for their child based on the child’s current developmental levels. Teaching Strategies can also be used as a communication tool for parents and teachers.
Conscious Discipline
Loop Learning Center has incorporated The Conscious Discipline as a supplemental curriculum. The Conscious Discipline is an evidence based curriculum that transforms everyday discipline issues into teaching moments. These moments are our opportunity to teach children the social-emotional and communication skills necessary to manage themselves, resolve conflict, prevent bullying and develop pro-social behaviors.
This curriculum utilizes the seven skills of discipline. The seven skills are Composure, Encouragement, Assertiveness, Choices, Empathy, Positive Intent and Consequences. The seven skills emerge from the foundation of the Seven Powers for Conscious Adults. As we become more conscious of our reactions to conflict, we can choose a different response. The seven skills teach you to respond to conflict in a way that helps children move from the resistant, lower centers of their brain to the more cooperative, higher centers.
